Medical evacuation, or better known as “medivac” is the timely and efficient movement of an injured person to an emergency medical facility. The fastest medivac is handled by a helicopter air ambulance. It takes quick but careful planning and skilled landing instructions communicated to the incoming pilots for a safe and efficient extraction.
Saturday, the East Texas CERT members added to their extensive repertoire of emergency response skills. Members learned how to choose a suitable landing zone and how to mark it off. All members learned the different responsibilities for a spotter or a flag person along with the proper hand signals to communicate to the pilots so they can land and take off safely. Members participating in this training expands the assistance capabilities we can provide to emergency agencies. Should an event occur where Police or Fire Department personell may be scarce or unable to perform these duties, they know they can call upon the assistance of East Texas CERT to handle this vital service.
