As we head in to storm season, it’s extremely important to be prepared for the possibly of severe weather.  On Saturday, EastTex CERT held its first of a two day training at the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office to educate the community on emergency preparedness, fire suppression, first aid, and other helpful tips.    Thank you to Fate DPS for helping us with the fire suppression training.

Day 1 of the class teaches students on important tips to keep their family at home in case of a disaster, and also how to prevent preventable accidents in the home.  We also teach students how to properly use a fire extinguisher, and first aid.

Day 2 of the training focuses on CERT’s relationship with the Northeast Texas CART (Child Abduction Response Team), disaster psychology, and search and rescue.

After completion of the class, attendees may decide to join the team and be placed on our emergency call out list, and be eligible to take additional trainings.

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is an all-volunteer organization through FEMA to help educate and organize local communities in the event of a disaster.  EastTex CERT services Rockwall, Kaufman, Hunt, and Collin Counties.  If you’re interested in joining, you can sign up by visiting our JOIN CERT page.
