Saturday, October 19, members of EastTex Regional CERT (ETRC) headed to downtown Royse City to volunteer at the 30th anniversary Royse City Chamber Fun Fest. The team is always prepared to help in emergency situations, but also to support the community during non-emergency public events.  It was a full and busy day with vendors, games, activities, music, and of course, the Fun Run. The 12 volunteer members worked traffic control along with first aid. It is not uncommon at these events for children to get separated from their family, and this day included one missing child that was quickly found.  Parents can always use our booth as a meeting spot for your children in case you get separated as part of our Kid Safe Zone program.

The CERT team also had one other light medical call for a woman attending the event for heat related distress. It’s important to stay well hydrated, or head exhaustion and heat stroke can set in quickly.

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is an all-volunteer organization through FEMA to help educate and organize local communities in the event of a disaster. EastTex CERT supports Rockwall, Kaufman, Hunt, Van Zandt and Collin Counties as well as the Town of Sunnyvale. If you’re interested in joining, you can sign up by visiting our JOIN CERT page.
